Deerfield Beach (International Fishing Pier)

Deerfield Beach centers on its 1,000-foot International Fishing Pier, with about a mile of sand guarded by nine lifeguard towers from morning into early evening. North of the pier is the surfing zone, so most swimmers stay on the south side near Tower 7. Rip currents are the main hazard; give the pier pilings a wide berth.

Best conditions: Light-wind days on the south side of the pier near Tower 7, away from the surfing zone.
Getting in: Main public beach at 200 NE 21st Ave., centered on the 1,000-foot Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier.
Parking & transport: Metered street parking plus a paid garage near the pier; both fill quickly on weekends.
Lifeguards: Deerfield Beach Ocean Rescue guards a one-mile stretch from nine towers: 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. November–March and 8:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. March–November.
Water quality: Florida Department of Health Healthy Beaches Program samples the 'Deerfield Beach Pier' site for enterococci bacteria every 1–2 weeks depending on county (Good 0–35, Moderate 36–70, Poor 71+ per 100 mL); an advisory is issued when a sample and its resample both exceed 70. The city describes its beach as a 'Blue Wave' award winner.
