Revere Beach

America's first public beach, opened in 1896, runs for more than three miles about five miles north of downtown Boston, and it is easily reached on the MBTA Blue Line. DCR lifeguards cover it daily in midsummer, and it rated 95 percent in Save the Harbor's report card for the 2025 season. Take the T, since boulevard parking is time-limited.

Getting in: Free public DCR beach open dawn to dusk; the MBTA Blue Line runs between Revere Beach and downtown Boston.
Parking & transport: Four-hour limit on Revere Beach Blvd., with posted no-parking windows; Ocean Ave. and the inland side of the boulevard (Revere St. to Carey Circle) are resident-permit only.
Lifeguards: DCR lifeguards on weekends and holidays from May 23, then daily June 13-Sept. 7 in 2026.
Water quality: DCR samples for enterococci; Revere Beach earned a 95% rating in Save the Harbor/Save the Bay's report card for the 2025 season.
Season: DCR designated swimming season May 23-Sept. 7 in 2026. Dogs are not allowed April to mid-September.
