Mother's Beach, Alamitos Bay

Marine Park, known locally as Mother's Beach, sits inside Alamitos Bay on Naples Island, sheltered from ocean swell and consistently calm in its designated swim areas. The bay is a training ground for Long Beach swimmers, triathletes, rowers and outrigger crews. Heal the Bay's 2020 grades were an A in summer dry weather but an F after rain, so give it a few days after a storm.

Best conditions: Dry weather; the bay is protected from open-ocean motion, so conditions are consistently calm.
Getting in: Marine Park on the northeast side of Naples Island, just below Marine Stadium, with designated swim areas inside Alamitos Bay.
Parking & transport: Parking lot ringed by a large grassy area next to the beach.
Lifeguards: Lifeguard supervision during peak periods.
Water quality: Heal the Bay Beach Report Card (fecal indicator bacteria): in its 2020 report Mother's Beach graded A for summer dry weather, B for winter dry weather and F in wet weather.
Who swims here: Alamitos Bay hosts the annual Naples Island Swim and was named one of the World's Best Open Water Swimming Towns by the World Open Water Swimming Association in 2014. Outrigger clubs such as Kahakai and dragon boat teams are based at Mother's Beach.
