Redondo Beach

From the horseshoe-shaped pier, Redondo's beach runs a mile and a half south toward Torrance under the Esplanade, with county lifeguard towers along the way. A statue of George Freeth, credited as Southern California's first lifeguard, stands at the pier. The stretch toward Topaz Street has posted better water grades than the pier itself, and windsurfers share the water on breezy days.

Getting in: More than 1.5 miles of beach from the Redondo Beach Pier south to Torrance Beach along the Esplanade; stairs and ramps from the bluff (Avenue C, Knob Hill). Buses stop at the pier.
Parking & transport: Parking structure at the pier plus street parking.
Lifeguards: LA County lifeguards on duty during daylight hours.
Water quality: LA County surf-zone monitoring for fecal indicator bacteria. Heal the Bay 2025–26: 100 yards south of the pier B summer dry, C winter dry, B wet weather; Redondo State Beach at Topaz St. A summer dry, A+ wet weather.
