Daytona Beach – Main Street Pier

Daytona's wide, hard-packed beach runs for miles either side of the Main Street Pier, and the lifeguard stands post the day's water temperature, tides and surf. The city keeps a 300-foot no-water-activity zone around the pier and sets surfing areas nearby in summer, so enter the water well away from both. Cars share parts of the sand, so look both ways on your walk down.

Know before you go

Getting in: Free for pedestrians and cyclists 24 hours a day, tides and weather permitting; Main Street beach approach at the pier.
Parking & transport: Beach driving and parking are allowed in designated areas from sunrise to sunset Nov. 1–Apr. 30 and 8 a.m.–7 p.m. May 1–Oct. 31, at 10 mph. Volusia County charges for on-beach driving and its off-beach lots; county residents register through Park Volusia for free access.
Lifeguards: Volusia County lifeguards are posted along the beach; stands post water temperature, tide times and surf conditions.
Water quality: Florida Department of Health Healthy Beaches Program samples the 'Breakers Ocean Front Park' site for enterococci bacteria every 1–2 weeks depending on county (Good 0–35, Moderate 36–70, Poor 71+ per 100 mL); an advisory is issued when a sample and its resample both exceed 70.
Watch for: 300-foot no-water-activity area around the pier
