Coronado Central Beach

Central Beach is the wide sand in front of the Hotel del Coronado, part of a 1.75-mile city beach watched year-round from the main lifeguard tower. Seasonal towers add coverage from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Rain runoff and cross-border sewage can affect the water here, so check the county's beach status first and stay out for three days after heavy rain.

Getting in: Central Beach sits by the main lifeguard tower along Ocean Boulevard; a beach sidewalk leads to the tower and is wheelchair accessible.

Lifeguards: Main tower at Central Beach staffed year-round, daily 9 am to sunset; seasonal towers daily 9 am to sunset from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Water quality: San Diego County DEH Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program tests for fecal indicator bacteria (same-day ddPCR method since 2022) and posts advisories and closures. The City of Coronado also monitors local receiving waters and points to Tijuana River flow and plume tracking.
