Saltdean Lido

Saltdean's crescent-shaped lido opened in 1938 and sits just across the coast road from the sea, a 40-metre heated pool in front of a Grade II* listed Art Deco building. The operator keeps the water at about 25°C in summer, so it suits steady lengths as well as family afternoons; check session times online before you go, and come by bus or along the Undercliff Walk on busy days.

Know before you go

Getting in: Pay-to-swim public lido run by Saltdean Lido CIC; swim tickets and season passes are sold through the Lido's website.
Parking & transport: Two free car parks next to the Lido, first come first served (postcode BN2 8SP). Buses 27, 12, 12X and 14 stop at Longridge Avenue, a minute's walk away, and the Undercliff Walk gives a traffic-free cycle route along the coast.
Water quality: Heated pool: the operator quotes about 25°C in summer and about 19°C in winter.
Season: The 2026 summer season runs to Thursday 10 September, 07:00 to 19:00. The operator also quotes a winter water temperature, so check the website for out-of-season sessions.
Who swims here: Saved by a residents' campaign: the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company took a 60-year lease in 2014 and reopened the pool in 2017. It also hosts an annual dog swim.
