Robert Moses State Park

Robert Moses State Park covers about five miles of ocean beach at the western end of Fire Island, with lifeguarded swimming off four parking fields, each with its own bathhouse area and concession. Field 5 is closest to the Fire Island Lighthouse. If you would rather not drive the causeway, the seasonal S47 bus runs from the Babylon LIRR station.

Getting in: New York State park reached by the Robert Moses Causeway across Great South Bay; open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
Parking & transport: Vehicle use fee of $10 per car from May 23 to September 11, 2026 and $8 on spring and fall weekends. Fields 2, 4 and 5 hold about 1,000 cars each and Field 3 about 500. Suffolk Transit's S47 connects seasonally with the Babylon LIRR station.
Lifeguards: NYS Parks posts lifeguarded swimming at Fields 2, 3, 4 and 5, with Fields 2 and 5 staffed the longest; hours vary by field and date.
Water quality: Suffolk County Department of Health Services monitors bathing beaches from May through September, testing marine beaches for enterococci and issuing advisories around heavy rainfall.
Season: Lifeguarded swimming from Memorial Day weekend into mid-September at Fields 2 and 5, with shorter seasons at Fields 3 and 4.
