River Pool at Beacon
The River Pool is a floating, rainbow-colored pool with a netted bottom, moored off Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park so you can swim in the Hudson itself with a lifeguard on duty. Admission is free and no reservation is needed. It opens Tuesday to Sunday afternoons in July and August, a short walk from Metro-North's Beacon station on the Hudson Line.

Know before you go
- Getting in
- Free, no reservations. Off the north shore of Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park, 2 Red Flynn Drive, Beacon; Beacon station (Metro-North Hudson Line) is next to the park.
- Lifeguards
- Tuesday–Sunday, noon–6 p.m., July through Labor Day, weather and lifeguard availability permitting; closed Mondays for maintenance.
- Water quality
- Dutchess County Department of Health tests the water weekly; results are linked from the River Pool website.
- Season
- July–Labor Day; volunteers install the pool in June and remove it in September. The 2026 season ended August 27.
- Who swims here
- River Pool at Beacon runs the Great Newburgh to Beacon Hudson River Swim, a kayak-escorted river crossing capped at 225 swimmers that funds the pool; the 2026 swim was cancelled after the group lost its usual entry site.
