Ogunquit Beach

A barrier beach of fine pale sand that runs about three miles from Main Beach past Footbridge to North Beach, with the tidal Ogunquit River behind the dunes. Ogunquit Ocean Rescue staffs seven stations from late June to Labor Day, but long stretches sit far from a guard. Swim near a staffed stand and check its flag before you enter the ocean or the river.

Know before you go

Getting in: Main Beach is by the village; the Marginal Way footpath runs along the coast from Perkins Cove to the beach. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches April 1 to September 9, and the beach is protected piping plover habitat.
Parking & transport: Town lots, paid April 17 to October 31, 2026, 8am–9pm: Main Beach Lot $9/hour or $50/day; Footbridge and North Beach lots $8/hour or $45/day; pay via ParkMobile or Passport.
Lifeguards: Ogunquit Ocean Rescue staffs 7 lifeguard stations with 17–18 guards daily from late June to Labor Day; large sections of the beach are not fully protected because of their distance from staffed stations.
Water quality: Participating Maine Healthy Beaches site (Main, Footbridge, Moody and Riverside sampling areas): Enterococcus sampled Memorial Day to Labor Day, with an Elevated Bacteria advisory above 104 MPN/100 mL and Precautionary Rainfall advisories typically after an inch or more of rain in 24 hours.
Season: Lifeguarded late June through Labor Day.
Watch for: Long unguarded stretches far from staffed stations
