The Wedge in Newport Beach is a famous advanced bodyboarding and surfing break with extremely powerful shore break and dangerous conditions. Only advanced swimmers and experienced water sports athletes should enter, and even then only during appropriate conditions with full awareness of hazards. This spot is dangerous for swimming; strong swimmers get swept in rip currents and dumped by shore break regularly.
